Ben Sasse for U.S. Senate

by Donlyn Turnbull

Tea Party Express proudly endorses businessman Ben Sasse for the U.S. Senate seat in Nebraska.  We invite you to take this opportunity to get to know Ben and learn more about what he represents and why we believe he is the strongest fiscal conservative candidate and most compelling leader in this race.

The Right Credentials

Ben Sasse earned his bachelor’s degree in Government from Harvard University, in which he also had the opportunity to study abroad during his junior year at the University of Oxford.  He went on to receive a Master of Arts in Liberal studies from St. John’s College before eventually earning additional degrees from Yale, including his Doctorate.

In 2007, George W. Bush nominated Ben for a key position within the US Department of Health and Human Services. After he was confirmed by the Senate he served in the position as Assistant Secretary until the end of Bush’s tenure.  He’s also served as the Chief of Staff for the Justice Department.

Most recently, Ben fulfills the role of President of Midland University, an institution that was fiscally unsound until Ben assumed the lead position. Since then, Midland University has been the fastest-growing school four years in a row.

His experience shows he understands how to make effective decisions and apply the hard work necessary to make them successful.  He wants to apply the same to Washington.

“It’s time to cure the ineffectiveness and dysfunction of both parties in Washington,” his campaign website explains. “Congress has forgotten conservative values, like how to live within a budget. They need a reminder.”

The Right Issues

Ben Sasse demonstrates his expertise is pivotal in resolving critical issues. He wants to apply the same skills to Government reform as well has tackling key issues head on. He is a strong vocal and active opponent to ObamaCare. “I’ve spent the better part of the last ten years in the health care sector,” Ben said.  “I have intensely studied ObamaCare. The fact is I’m one of the few people it seems who has actually read the 2,300 pages of ObamaCare, and let me just tell you–it’s worse than you think. I understand the bill, I can explain the bill, and I know how to rip it apart.”

But Ben explains it isn’t’ the simple technical issues which prove to be the largest problem with ObamaCare.  He rightfully explains, “The problem with ObamaCare goes way beyond technological glitches. The problem with ObamaCare is that it fundamentally changes the relationship between the Government and our citizens. [We should] repeal ObamaCare and get America back on track.”

The Right Fight

Ben Sasse is a problem solver. “I believe in America, I believe in freedom and I believe we can solve our problems,” he said.  He wants to bring his solutions to the U.S. Senate and lead the nation to fiscal solvency as well as protecting our Constitution.

“I think we have to do massive regulatory reform. When you read the Constitution there are only three branches of government, a legislative, executive, and a judicial–and the legislative branch is supposed to pass the laws and the executive branch, execute them. The executive branch doesn’t get to create these permanent bureaucracies that write big pieces of legislation that we didn’t ever discuss as a people,” Sasse said.
